FRED FENSTER
INTRODUCTION TO PEWTERSMITHING:
This workshop will cover a variety of subjects using an alloy with a long and rich history: pewter. Create with basic forming techniques including sinking, raising, darts and form alteration. Increase design possibilities through the use of pattern development, forming in halves or sections. Participants will make scrapers used in scoring ad folding. Simple casting and forging will be explored. Finishing techniques of scratch brush, file finishing, polishing, oxidizing and other surface embellishment techniques will help to you complete a wonderful experience.
RICHARD MAWDSLEY
JEWELRY CONSTRUCTION WITH TUBING:
Explore the intricate and wonderful world of fabrication using various sizes of tubing. Precious and semiprecious metal tubing allows one to emphasize individual expression while using pre formed material. Learn highly refined soldering approaches that allow amazing control of the torches’ heat, location of seams that can disappear and a complexity of form that may seem impossible. Materials fee.
TOM MADDEN
DAMASCENE- THE ORIGINAL VELCRO:
Discover “Damascene” the long cherished secret of ancient masters. Create surfaces of vibrant patterns through the rich contrast of gold, silver and copper on iron. This studio experience will explore the direct application of these nonferrous metals onto articles of iron using the direct chisel inlay process. Learn, chisel manufacture, surface preparation, overlay application and strategies, and finishing and patination.

EXPLORING ENAMELS :
Enamel fused onto copper turns this humble material
into an amazing range of color & texture. Application, firing, texturing, creating patterns
both on the metal and with enamels will be the technical focus of this workshop. Applying the
learned information into more complex ideas will be discussed. The focus will be to experiment
with the process, including torch firing, which creates a spontaneous and direct approach.

BLACKSMITHING : Revolutionize your abilities to work metal with a hammer.
Hot forging steel makes the creation of objects possible from jewelry to sculpture. Proper use of heat,
for various stages of forming, leads to an exploration of tapers, twists, bends and curves. Start
with fundamentals and build confidence as you shape the metal that defines civilizations’
progress. Goggles, apron, gloves, hearing/ protective clothing required. Materials fee.
JOE AND BETTY HARRIS
TWOFER JEWELRY BENCH TRICKS:
Looking for a sweet way to add extra pizzazz to your designs and solve some technical problems? Benefit from two professional jewelers/ teachers with a bag full of bench tricks. Joe and Betty Harris will share their unique and diverse approaches to creating one of a kind work or multiples. From soldering to small scale lapidary, etching to stone setting, simple chain to woven wire, this twofer workshop offers dazzling possibilities.

POETIC OBJECTS OF CONTAINMENT AND PATINA PROCESSES : We all encounter objects, either natural or man-made, which we find intriguing. This workshop will consider these objects from various viewpoints. Is your object something you are compelled to touch and hold? Is it something you find visually pleasing or one you are repelled, yet fascinated by? We will design and create two small vessels or containers that visually and conceptually reflect the object placed inside. They could be wearable, sculptural, or simply, “poetic objects of containment and contemplation”.
Techniques addressed will include forming, fabrication, cold joints, and mechanisms. Everyone will also complete a series of patina samples to explore a range of processes and rich colorations.
